Fifteen years after 9/11, both the threat of terrorism and debates surrounding U.S. counterterrorism policies continue to dominate the headlines.  In this talk, Professor Chesney will trace the path from al Qaeda to the Islamic State and beyond, emphasizing the way in which terrorist groups respond strategically to successful counterterrorism practices.

Professor Bobby Chesney, a San Antonio native, is the Director of the Robert Strauss Center for International Security and Law at UT as well as serving as the law school’s associate dean and as the Charles I. Francis Professor in Law.  He is a national authority on topics ranging from terrorism to cybersecurity, with an emphasis on the intersection of law, policy, and technology.
